NIV 3 I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly--my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.

NIV 4 And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. NIV 11 Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun.12 Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor.

NIV 16 When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe man's labor on earth--his eyes not seeing sleep day or night--17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.

NIV 13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man.14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. .
