"I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayst be rich: and white raiment, that thou mayst be clothed, that thy filthy nakedness do not appear: and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayst see."

The plain language Edition is an attempt to make the old and middle English of the Tyndale translation easier for the modern reader to understand. One way it does this is by replacing many of the outdated words with more modern ones. For example, there are many “yeas” in the original and these being changed to “yeses” was the inspiration for calling it the “Yes Word.” It also contains many added footnotes that help explain some of the more difficult and less common words.
All footnotes marked * RN are the modern recorder’s notes and those marked MN are marginal notes from the original text. Marginal notes (MN) are mostly credited to Tyndale, yet some may be of John Rogers. In either case these men worked together on The Word and both were martyred for publishing and promoting it. All parentheses that surround smaller size text are from the modern recorder. All parentheses that surround normal size text are from Tyndale.
For more on the reasons for this plain language edition read the Recorders testimony of how and why it came about in: Why a Plain Language Edition?
